| Angel had an appointment in
Dallas at the Coit Road Animal Hospital, Dallas Dental Service Animal Clinic,
with Dr. Wiggs, D.V.M.. Dr. Phil Hobson DVM, MS, Diplomate,
ACVS of A & M University referred her to him because he said he was
the best in this area. Dr. Wiggs took a look at her jaw and the teeth that
were causing her problems and decided to keep her for a few days to complete
all the work that she needed at this time. He cleaned and scrapped the
plaque and excess food from the jaw area where the socket is so jammed
and then removed and capped several teeth. They said that they had
also added cartiledge and stitches in the gums where the teeth had been
removed. After a three day stay with him, they told us she
was ready to go. When we picked her up they told us to return in about
3 weeks for a follow up visit to see how she was healing.. When they brought
her out to us, I opened the kennel door and she jumped out right onto my
shoulder. She was ready to go home and was sure glad to see me. They told
us that she had been really calm till the dogs came in that day. Several
dogs had been brought in for dental work that morning and the barking had
unsettled her a little but the tech was so wonderful with her. He had held
her and comforted her to let her know that she was safe. But when she saw
me, she was ready to go home.
At the follow up, he examined
the work and told us that everything was healing wonderfully but
we would not be able to tell if she would need more surgery for at least
6 months to a year later. By then, if the jaw was going to move any
due to the spaces where the teeth have been removed, we could have to remove
more teeth. I guess we wait to see if more surgery is needed or if this
is it. We will take her back in 9 months and go from there.
When we checked out, there was
no additional charges except for the cans of a/d cat food. We bought her
a dozen cans of the good tasting, high nutrition food to help her during
her recovery period. Of course she shared with all her friends here at
home. I think it spoiled her because she sure loved it. It was soft and
the smell was almost good enough for me to want to try.. :)
As for now, Angel is doing great
and has decided that she is the rule of the roost here. She lets all the
other cats and kittens know that she owns the place and not them. They
all seem to let her have her way.
