Why are Registered Kittens so Expensive?

Most legitimate breeders do not even cover their own costs. It's a very expensive hobby. As an example, buying a top show quality kitten with breeding rights can cost more than $1000 per cat.

Showing cats to the title of "Champion" can add another $500-$2000 to the investment. Showing a male or female to the title of "Grand Champion", or "Regional/National Winner"  can be from $1000 to over $20,000!

Maintenance, supplies and veterinary care generally cost breeders about $500 per cat per year. By the time a cat is first bred, at about a year old, the breeder will have invested several thousand dollars.

Kitten shots and vet visits cost breeders about $100 per kitten and that's if there are NO problems to be treated. Kittens stay with the breeder for about 8 weeks to 3 months, and have to be cuddled, and cleaned up after for all that time. Separate, special areas of the house are often customized for the cats to use as a cattery or nursery and some cattery set-ups cost $5000 or more to build.

If all goes well, fat healthy kittens are born. But there are always the disasters, such as C-sections that run $750 and up. Good breeders make a huge investment into  " doing it right", by having the right breeding cats and facilities. Caring, professionaly breeders make huge sacrifices in their personal lives, and shed lots of tears, in trying to create a successful breeding program.

SHIPPING INFORMATION

We ship to many cities in the continental USA. Shipping charges may vary according to American Airline fees at the time of shipping.  Temperature must be between 50 and 80 degrees in both departure and arrival cities. (Exceptions do apply with vet release for temperatures below 50 at times.) The  price at this time runs $167 for PRIORITY.  Some cities do no accept transport of live animals. We do not ship outside the continental USA. There is a $50 charge for a carrier and an extra vet charge required by American  of $78 per kitten for a health certificate, examination,  test and last set of  shots. Kittens should not be shipped prior to 12 weeks of age.

Kittens are not neutered or spayed before delivery. That will be up to you if you wish to have that done.  If you wish to breed, be sure to ask about breeding rights before purchase.  Prices do not include breeding rights. You can still breed an animal without breeding rights, you just can not register the kittens born. Many breeders will required you have the kitten fixed before you will receive the papers on your new kitten or will have it spayed or neutered before you receive the kitten if breeding rights are not given. Also, many breeders will not sell breeding rights. Be sure you ask all the questions you need answers to before purchasing your new bundle of joy. I welcome questions if you have any.  Please email me and I will respond as soon as possible.
